Are Essential Oils safe around pets?Updated 8 days ago
TL;DR: Certain essential-oil compounds, like tea-tree and some citrus oils, can irritate animals in ways that do not affect humans. Do not diffuse or mist Eucalyptus Oil, Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil, or Lavender Calm Essential Oil around pets. Ventilate thoroughly and consult your vet.
Pet safety guidelines
No diffusing or misting around pets
Keep sprays and diffusers out of rooms where cats, dogs, or small animals spend time. Essential-oil compounds can irritate airways and skin in ways that do not affect humans.
Ventilate thoroughly
Oils linger in soft furnishings. Air out the space thoroughly before letting pets back in. If you spill any oil, wipe up straight away and rinse the area with mild soap and plenty of water.
Consult your vet
Every species and breed has different tolerances. Your vet can confirm what is safe for your household before you use any essential oil.
Signs of irritation
If you notice your pet sneezing, drooling, or acting unusually after exposure to any scent, ventilate the area and consult your veterinarian immediately.
