Are Koh sheet and tablet products free from plastic?Updated 13 days ago
TL;DR: Yes. The PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) wrappers on Loo Cleaner Tabs, Dishwashing Tablets, and Sensitive Laundry Sheets are water-soluble and biodegradable. Independent peer-reviewed testing shows approximately 97% removal during standard wastewater treatment. All three products are GECA certified.
What is PVA?
A widely used, safe material
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a water-soluble, biodegradable material commonly used in cleaning products, food packaging, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. It has been extensively studied and is classified as safe by regulatory bodies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Why we use PVA
We use PVA wrappers on Loo Cleaner Tabs, Dishwashing Tablets, and Sensitive Laundry Sheets to reduce direct skin exposure to concentrated cleaning agents, making them friendlier for people with asthma and allergies while ensuring a mess-free, effective clean.
Independent testing and certifications
Peer-reviewed biodegradation results
Independent, peer-reviewed testing using an OECD 303A wastewater treatment simulation found that a representative detergent-film grade of PVA was extensively biodegraded during treatment, averaging approximately 97% removal. Environmental exposures were modelled well below effect thresholds using US EPA E-FAST and EU EUSES models.
GECA certified
Our cleaning products are certified by Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA), meaning they meet strict environmental and health standards. GECA certification ensures formulas are free from harmful chemicals, have a lower impact on aquatic life, avoid respiratory and skin irritants, and comply with ethical manufacturing and environmental legislation.
