Can I use Dishwashing Liquid as hand soap?Updated 2 hours ago
TL;DR: Dishwashing Liquid is dermatologically tested and certified as gentle on skin during normal dishwashing use, but it’s formulated for dishes, not for use as a regular hand wash.
Certified gentle, but not a hand soap
Dishwashing Liquid has been dermatologically tested by Dermatest and holds current certification for being gentle on skin. It’s also approved by the Eczema Association and Sensitive Choice, confirming it’s suitable for sensitive users during normal dishwashing use.
However, it’s still an enzymatic cleaner. The enzymes that make it effective on food residue and grease (including enzymes that target protein) aren’t designed for frequent use on skin. It also doesn’t include the pH-balancing or moisturizing ingredients you’d find in a dedicated hand soap.
Best practice use
- Use it for dishes and kitchenware only.
- For regular hand washing, choose a soap or cleanser made for skin.
