Can you use Essential Oils with Dishwashing Tablets?Updated 18 hours ago
TL;DR: You can add a light fragrance to a dishwasher cycle, place 1-2 drops of an essential oil on top of a dishwasher tablet (do not pour oil into the dispenser), close the compartment and run the cycle. 🌿
How to do it (quick)
- Load your dishwasher as normal and place the tablet in the detergent compartment.
- Add 1-2 drops of your chosen Koh essential oil directly onto the top surface of the tablet.
- Close the tablet compartment as normal. Do not pour oil into the dispenser or directly into the machine.
- Run the cycle. Enjoy a subtle scent. Avoid overdoing it (more drops = stronger residue risk).
Safety & best practice
- Start small: use 1-2 drops and try one cycle first to check for any smell or residue you don’t like.
- Don’t pour oil into the dispenser, spray arms, or directly onto plastic seals. Oils are concentrated - poured straight in they can leave residue or affect machine parts over time.
- Avoid heavy use: frequent large doses could leave residue on glasses or cutlery; if that happens, reduce the drops or stop using oils.
- Test fragile items: if washing delicate glassware or porous items, consider removing them for the scented cycle or skip oils that day.
- Keep oils away from children & pets and store them safely.
Will it affect cleaning?
Used sparingly (1-2 drops) the oil should not affect detergency for most loads. If you notice visible residue or scents you don’t like, reduce the amount or stop using oils.
Can I use any essential oil?
- Stick to Koh essential oils.
