Are they compostable?

✓ Home-compostable cellulose

Yes. Dish Sponges are made from natural wood pulp fibres (FSC certified) so they break down naturally and are suitable for home composting. When worn out, pop them into your home compost bin (tear into smaller pieces first) or send them to an industrial composting facility if you have access to one.

How do I dispose of them?

✓ Step by step

1

Remove large food scraps. Shake or rinse off stuck-on food first.

2

Tear into smaller pieces. This helps home compost bins break them down faster.

3

Add to your compost heap or green bin. Keep the pile aerated.

4

Or use industrial composting if your local council offers organics collection.

⚠ Not recyclable

Cellulose sponges aren't suitable for standard kerbside recycling. They're biodegradable and compostable rather than recyclable, so composting is the recommended end-of-life route. If you're unsure about local composting options, check with your council's organics service.

How long do they last?

✓ Lifespan

With normal household use and proper care, a cellulose sponge typically lasts a few weeks. Product testing and real-world use indicate up to around 5 weeks depending on frequency and how well it's dried between uses.

✓ When to replace

Replace when the sponge becomes ragged, permanently stained, or starts to break down. A worn sponge is doing its job. It just means it's time for a fresh one.

How should I care for them?

✓ After each use

Rinse and squeeze dry after each use. Remove trapped water and food. Store in a well-ventilated spot so it air-dries between uses.

⚠ Avoid

Don't leave the sponge sitting in a full sink of water. If you need a quick refresh, rinse thoroughly and let dry in sunlight or on a ventilated rack.
