How do I use Dishwashing Tabs for best results?Updated 3 hours ago

TL;DR: One whole Dishwashing Tab per wash. Drop it straight into the detergent dispenser for normal, auto, and eco cycles, the PVA film dissolves in water so don't unwrap it. For quick or 30-minute programs, lay the tab flat on the tub floor under the lower spray arm. Never cut, break, or unwrap them. Works the same way in full-size, compact, and drawer dishwashers.

Can I cut or break the tabs?

No. Each Koh Dishwashing Tab is pre-measured for one full wash and balanced for the cycle. Cutting it in half means half the dose for a full load: spotting on glass, stains that don't shift, and risk of gritty residue or undissolved detergent clogging the dispenser. Don't unwrap the PVA film either, it's water-soluble and designed to dissolve at the right moment in the cycle. The film also keeps direct contact with concentrated detergent off your hands.

Where should I put the tab?

Placement depends on the cycle. For normal, auto, and eco cycles, drop the tab straight into the detergent dispenser and close the flap, the dispenser opens mid-wash to release detergent at the right moment. For quick or 30-minute programs, the cycle may end before the dispenser opens or before the tab fully dissolves, so skip the dispenser and lay the tab flat on the tub floor, centred under the lower spray arm. In drawer and compact dishwashers, follow the same rule: dispenser for standard, tub floor for quick.

✓ Normal / Auto

Straight into the detergent dispenser. Close the flap. That's it.

Dispenser

✓ Quick / 30 min

Tub floor, flat, centred under the lower spray arm. Dispenser may not open in time.

Tub floor

✓ Eco (low temp)

Start with dispenser. If residue appears, switch to tub floor for next wash.

Dispenser first

How should I load the dishwasher?

Loading matters more than most people realise. Spray arms need clear paths to every dish: no nesting bowls inside bowls, no plates packed too tight for water to flow between them, no tall items blocking the top arm. Scrape off large food scraps but don't pre-rinse, place bowls and cups facing down on the top rack, stand plates between the tines on the bottom rack, and face dirty surfaces toward the centre where the spray hits hardest.

✓ Loading checklist

1

Scrape, don't rinse. Modern dishwashers need some food residue for enzymes to grip onto. A quick scrape is enough.

2

No nesting. Bowls, cups, and spoons need space, or they'll shield each other from the spray.

3

Face dirty side down and in. Dirty surfaces toward the spray arm, not the walls.

4

Dry hands only. Wet fingers start the PVA film dissolving before the tab hits the dispenser.

What if dishes are still cloudy or spotty?

If glassware comes out cloudy or spotted, it's usually hard water, not the tab. Try these in order: top up the rinse-aid reservoir (rinse aid helps water sheet off glass cleanly in hard-water areas), run a hotter cycle (eco cycles can struggle in very hard water), move the tab to the tub floor if you're on a quick or eco cycle, and check the salt reservoir (refill with dishwasher salt). Dull and chalky all over points to hard water needing ongoing rinse aid plus salt. Just a few spots usually means a loading issue.

✓ Try in order

1

Top up rinse aid. Helps water sheet off glass cleanly in hard-water areas. Dishwashing Tabs do most of the work, rinse aid finishes it.

2

Run a hotter cycle. Eco cycles can struggle in very hard water. Step up to normal or intensive.

3

Move the tab to the tub floor. If you're on quick or eco, dispenser timing may be the issue.

4

Refill the salt reservoir. If your dishwasher has one, dishwasher salt helps the softening system handle hard water. Dull and chalky all over usually means salt + ongoing rinse aid; just a few spots is usually a loading issue.

How should I store them?

Keep the pouch sealed when not in use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and away from the sink or dishwasher (steam and splashes start the PVA film dissolving). Handle with dry hands only. Unopened, Koh Dishwashing Tabs are shelf-stable for at least 12 months.
