Do Loo Cleaner Tabs have a fragrance?Updated 13 days ago

TL;DR: No. Loo Cleaner Tabs are fragrance-free. No added perfumes, no synthetic scents, no masking agents. The formula is Sensitive Choice approved. If you prefer an added scent, drop 2 to 3 drops of essential oil into the bowl alongside the tab. Eucalyptus, lemon-scented tea tree, and lavender are popular picks. Never add essential oils to the cistern tank.

Are Loo Cleaner Tabs fragrance-free?

Yes. Koh Loo Cleaner Tabs are fragrance-free. The formula contains no added perfumes, no synthetic scents, and no masking agents. Most mainstream toilet cleaners use heavy fragrances to cover the chemical smell of their cleaning ingredients. Koh's oxygen-based formula is inherently lower-odour than chlorine-based alternatives, so there's no harsh chemical smell to mask in the first place. The fragrance-free formula is one of the reasons Koh Loo Cleaner Tabs hold Sensitive Choice approval from the National Asthma Council of Australia, alongside GECA eco-certification. The product is suitable for sensitive noses, allergy-prone households, asthma sufferers, and anyone who prefers a cleaner with no added scent.

What does the bowl smell like during cleaning?

During cleaning, you'll notice a faint clean fizz as the tab dissolves in the water. The fizzing as the tablet dissolves produces a smell most customers describe as fresh, slightly mineral, like sparkling water. It's not chemical, not perfumed, and not sharp. Once the solution sits and you flush, the bowl is left with no lingering scent. Just clean. If you're used to chlorine bleach toilet cleaner smell, the absence of a strong scent can take a few cleans to register as clean. Some Koh customers add essential oils to the bowl alongside the tab if they prefer a noticeable scent (more on that below).

✓ Faint clean fizz, nothing harsh

The fizzing smells fresh and mineral, like sparkling water, not chemical or perfumed. Once flushed, the bowl is left with no lingering scent. If you're used to bleach-cleaner smell, the absence of strong scent can take a few cleans to feel normal.

Can I add a scent to the Loo Cleaner Tab?

Yes. Drop 2 to 3 drops of your favourite essential oil directly into the toilet bowl alongside the Koh Loo Cleaner Tab. Koh's three essential oils all work well in this role: Eucalyptus Oil (fresh and clean), Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil (citrus-fresh, the most popular Koh scent), and Lavender Calm Essential Oil (calming and light). Two to three drops is plenty per clean. Adding more does not make the scent stronger and risks leaving an oily residue on the bowl surface. Drop the oils into the bowl water at the same time as the tab, let everything dissolve and fizz together, scrub, sit, then flush. Add the oil to the bowl only. Never to the cistern tank.

✓ How to add a scent

2 to 3 drops of essential oil into the bowl alongside the tab. Koh's three options are Eucalyptus Oil, Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil, and Lavender Calm Essential Oil. Add to the bowl water only. Let everything dissolve, scrub, sit, flush.

Can I add essential oils to the cistern tank?

No. Never add essential oils to the cistern tank. Essential oils can build up on the rubber seals, flapper valve, and fill valve inside the cistern, causing them to degrade or warp over time. This leads to leaks, running toilets, and plumbing repairs that cost more than a year's worth of toilet cleaner. Note that this is different from the cistern method for the Loo Cleaner Tab itself: the tab can go in the cistern (the tab dissolves cleanly in water and rinses out), but essential oils do not dissolve in water and instead coat rubber components. If you want a scented clean, drop the oils in the bowl alongside the tab and follow the bowl method. The cistern method is best left fragrance-free.

⚠ Never add essential oils to the cistern tank

Oils don't dissolve in water and can build up on rubber seals, flapper valves, and fill valves inside the cistern, leading to leaks and running toilets. Note: the tab itself is fine in the cistern (it dissolves cleanly in water). Oils are not. Keep oils in the bowl only.
