How do I use Loo Cleaner Tabs?Updated 4 hours ago

TL;DR: Drop one Loo Cleaner Tab straight into the bowl, wrapper and all. Let it fizz and dissolve, scrub the bowl and under the rim with the Loo Blade, let the solution sit a few minutes, then flush. Once a week per toilet. For aged bowls, soak overnight and scrub with a Diamond Sponge instead.

How do I use Loo Cleaner Tabs in the bowl?

Drop one Koh Loo Cleaner Tab straight into the toilet bowl, aiming near the sides so the dissolving solution spreads evenly. Leave the wrapper on. Wait a few minutes for the tab to fizz and dissolve fully. Scrub around the bowl and under the rim with the Koh Loo Blade, working over anything visibly soiled. Let the solution sit a few more minutes, then flush to rinse it away. Repeat once a week per toilet to stay ahead of build-up. Do not flush before the tab has dissolved, since a partly dissolved tab can clog plumbing and weakens the clean. The PVA wrapper dissolves with the tab and never needs removing.

✓ Five-step bowl method

1

Drop one tab into the bowl, near the sides so the solution spreads evenly. The wrapper stays on.

2

Let it fizz and dissolve for a few minutes. The PVA wrapper dissolves with the tab, so there's nothing to unwrap or bin.

3

Scrub the bowl and under the rim with the Loo Blade. The rim is where build-up starts, so it's worth the extra ten seconds.

4

Let the solution sit a few more minutes so it keeps working on the surface.

5

Flush to rinse everything away. Once a week per toilet.

⚠ Don't flush before the tab dissolves

Flushing a partly dissolved tab can clog plumbing and waters down the clean before it's started. Let the tab finish fizzing before you scrub or flush. A cold bowl in winter takes a bit longer, so give it the extra minute rather than rushing it.

Wait for full dissolve No early flushing Cold bowls take longer

What about heavily soiled or aged bowls?

For an aged or heavily soiled bowl, follow the same method but soak overnight instead of a few minutes. The longer dwell gives the oxygen-based bleaching agents and the enzyme blend more time to break down protein, mineral and organic deposits. Scrub with a Koh Diamond Sponge rather than the Loo Blade, since the fine abrasive lifts aged staining the blade alone will not shift. Wear protective gloves when you scrub with a Diamond Sponge. If the marks are still there after two weekly treatments, they are most likely limescale from hard water, which needs a dedicated descaler.

⚠ Overnight soak, then a Diamond Sponge

Same method, longer dwell. Drop the tab in last thing at night and leave it, then scrub with a Diamond Sponge instead of the Loo Blade. The fine abrasive lifts aged staining the blade won't shift on its own. Wear protective gloves. If the marks survive two weekly treatments, you're most likely looking at limescale from hard water, and that needs a dedicated descaler rather than more tabs.

How often should I use Loo Cleaner Tabs?

Once a week per toilet suits a typical household. A weekly clean stays ahead of build-up rather than chasing it, and it keeps you from using more product than the job needs. A busy shared or guest bathroom can take a second tab in the same week. One weekly clean per pack tab means a pack runs around 3 months on a single toilet. Two toilets on the same weekly routine share the pack, so it runs about 7 weeks instead.

Can I put a tab in the cistern instead?

The cistern works as an alternative to the bowl. Drop one Koh Loo Cleaner Tab into the cistern, the water reservoir behind the bowl, and allow around 10 minutes for it to dissolve fully. Flush to carry the solution into the bowl, scrub with the Koh Loo Blade, then flush again to rinse. The cistern route works as a top-up between bowl cleans. The bowl method stays the primary one for anything visibly soiled, because the solution sits in direct contact with the soiled surface for the whole cleaning window. If your cistern carries a manufacturer warning against in-tank cleaning products, follow it and stick to the bowl.

✓ Cistern method, four steps

1

Drop one tab into the cistern, the water reservoir behind the bowl.

2

Allow around 10 minutes for the tab to dissolve fully in the cistern water.

3

Flush to carry the solution into the bowl, then scrub with the Loo Blade.

4

Flush again to rinse. The bowl method is still the one to use on visible soiling.

One caveat worth respecting: if your cistern or flush valve carries a manufacturer warning against in-tank cleaning products, follow the manufacturer and stick to the bowl method.

Does the routine change on a septic or greywater system?

The method is the same on a septic system, and three rules go with it. Use Koh Loo Cleaner Tabs only as directed, which is one tab per toilet per week for a typical household. Never pour undiluted product straight into a septic tank, a greywater line or an inspection opening. And avoid excessive use beyond normal cleaning, since overdosing any cleaner loads the bacterial balance the system depends on. If you reuse treated water for irrigation, suitability also turns on your soil type, what you are watering, and your local council rules, because clay and sandy soils behave differently, edible crops carry stricter rules than ornamentals, and requirements vary by state and council area.

✓ Same method, three rules

1

Use only as directed. One tab per toilet per week suits a typical household.

2

Never pour undiluted product straight into a septic tank, greywater line or inspection opening.

3

Avoid excessive use beyond normal cleaning. More product doesn't clean better and it loads the system.

Loo Cleaner Tabs are septic compatible when used as directed. There's no chlorine bleach and no quaternary ammonium disinfectant, so the bacteria your system relies on aren't disrupted. Septic tanks, AWTS, greywater and caravan cassette toilets have their own article in this cluster, linked below.

⚠ If you irrigate with treated water, three things change the answer

Greywater reuse isn't only about the product. It depends on your soil type, since clay and sandy soils handle irrigation water differently. It depends on what you're watering, because edible crops carry stricter rules than ornamentals. And it depends on your local council, since requirements vary by state and council area. Check your local guidelines, and treat your system manufacturer's approved-product list as the final word.
