How do I mop without leaving streaks or smears?Updated 4 days ago

How do I mop without leaving streaks or smears?

Less is more. One trigger pull covers roughly a square metre. Spray just ahead of the pad, mop back and forth until that section is dry, then move on. Over spraying is the most common cause of streaks, because the extra solution spreads rather than lifts. A dirty or damp pad is the second most common cause.

✓ Less is more

Over spraying is the most common cause of a smeared floor. The extra solution spreads rather than lifts, and the pad cannot pick it all back up.

1 One trigger pull per square metre. Two at most, even on a floor that looks grubby.

2 Spray just ahead of the pad. Not across the whole room, and never letting it sit while you work elsewhere.

3 Mop until that section is dry. Back and forth, then move on to the next section.

Why does over spraying cause smears?

The pad can only pick up so much liquid in one pass. Extra solution spreads across the floor rather than lifting into the pad, and whatever dries on its own dries as a streak. A dirty pad makes it worse, because it puts grime back down instead of lifting it.

✓ The pad can only lift so much

Whatever the pad cannot pick up in one pass dries on its own, and anything that dries on its own dries as a streak. Start every clean dry with the Dusting Mop Pad so grit is not in the mix either.

✓ A clean pad is the cheapest fix

A dirty pad puts grime back down instead of lifting it. Every Koh mop pad is machine washable, so swap to a fresh one and wash the old one. Our pad guide covers which pad suits which floor: Which mop pad should I use on my floor?

What if the mop will not glide?

Dragging or sticking is usually an anti slip coating on the floor adding friction, rather than anything going wrong with the mop. Switch to the Everyday Mop Pads, or add a touch more solution so the pad has something to run on.

How should you store the mop between cleans?

Take the pad off the mop head after use and hang the mop so the plate sits off the ground. A pad left on a damp plate is the other common source of marks on the next clean.
