What does eco-certified mean?Updated 2 days ago
TL;DR: "Eco-certified" means a product has been independently audited against an environmental standard. For Koh, that means GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia), a not-for-profit ecolabel that assesses cleaning products from raw ingredients through to manufacturing. Universal Cleaner has been GECA certified since 2016. Loo Cleaner Tabs and Dishwashing Tablets have been GECA certified since 2023. Other Koh products carry separate certifications (Sensitive Choice, Dermatest, Allergy UK, Eczema Association) covering different aspects of testing.
What does "eco-certified" mean at Koh?
"Eco-certified" means a product has been independently audited against an environmental standard. The certification is awarded by an independent body, not the brand itself, and the body publishes its criteria publicly. For Koh, the eco-label that applies is GECA.
What is GECA, and what does it cover?
✓ Australia's multi-sector ecolabel
Good Environmental Choice Australia is a not-for-profit ecolabel, recognised by the Global Ecolabelling Network. It publishes sector-specific standards and audits products against them.
✓ What the Cleaning Products Standard covers
✓ Restrictions on CMR substances
✓ Volatile organic compound (VOC) limits
✓ Biodegradability and aquatic toxicity criteria
✓ Packaging recyclability requirements
✓ Ethical manufacturing and labour standards
GECA publishes its Cleaning Products Standard at geca.eco/standards.
Which Koh products are GECA certified?
Three Koh products currently hold active GECA certification.

GECA certified since April 2016, the longest-running cert in the Koh range. One bottle for floors, kitchens, and surfaces.

GECA certified since July 2023. Drop straight into the bowl, cleans, deodorises, leaves it fresh.
What other certifications do Koh products carry?
Beyond GECA, Koh products carry four additional certifications. Each one covers a different aspect of product testing.
✓ Sensitive Choice
A program of the National Asthma Council Australia (NACA). Screens products for ingredients that may aggravate asthma symptoms. Carried by most of the Koh cleaning range.
✓ Dermatest
An independent dermatological testing institute. Assesses products for skin tolerance under a published testing protocol. Carried by most of the cleaning and laundry range.
✓ Allergy UK
The operating name of the British Allergy Foundation. Runs a Seal of Approval program for products tested as suitable for those with allergies. Currently held by Universal Cleaner.
✓ Eczema Association
Certifies products as suitable for those with eczema-prone skin. Currently held by Universal Cleaner, Bathroom & Shower Cleaner, Kitchen Grease & Oil Cleaner, and Dishwashing Liquid (all certified October 2025).
Each certification covers a different testing scope, so a product can carry one but not another. The current list for any specific product is shown on its product page.

GECA certified since 2016. One bottle for floors, kitchens, and surfaces.
