Why isn't the Dishwashing Tab wrapper dissolving?Updated 2 hours ago

TL;DR: Dishwashing Tabs are wrapped in biodegradable PVA film designed to dissolve completely in the wash. Leftover film or residue almost always points to placement, water temperature, or water-flow. Three checks below.

What should I check first?

If a Koh Dishwashing Tab wrapper isn't dissolving, three things to check first. Placement: standard or auto cycles use the dispenser, short or eco cycles need the tab flat on the tub floor under the lower spray arm. Temperature: PVA film needs a wash above 55°C to dissolve fully, and eco cycles can run too cool. Water flow: spray arms need to spin freely and filters need to be clean for water to reach the tab.

✓ Placement

Standard or auto cycles: in the dispenser. Short or eco cycles: flat on the tub floor under the lower spray arm.

Standard: dispenser Quick: tub floor

✓ Temperature

PVA film needs 55 to 65°C to dissolve fully. Cold or low-temp eco cycles can leave residue.

55 to 65°C Skip cold cycles

✓ Water flow

Spray arms need to spin freely. Filters need to be clean. Both let water reach the tab properly.

What if the tab is stuck or still not dissolving?

If the tab is sticking in the dispenser or coming out partially dissolved, the cause is usually moisture before the cycle starts or the dispenser lid not opening. Handle tabs with dry hands only, make sure the dispenser compartment is dry before loading, and don't peel the wrapper. Then try three things: check nothing is blocking the dispenser lid, place the tab on the tub floor instead, and switch to a hotter or longer cycle.

✓ Before loading

Handle tabs with dry hands only. Make sure the dispenser compartment is completely dry before loading. Moisture can start the PVA film dissolving prematurely or stick the tab to the compartment.

Dry hands Dry compartment Don't peel

✓ Try in order

1

Check the dispenser lid. Tall items, protruding handles, or a poorly loaded top rack can block the lid from opening mid-cycle.

2

Move to the tub floor. Place the tab flat under the lower spray arm. Bypasses the dispenser entirely.

3

Switch to a hotter or longer cycle. Normal or intensive cycle, 55 to 65°C. Eco and quick cycles can run too cool or too short.

What about film or residue on dishes?

Film on dishes after a Koh Dishwashing Tab wash usually points to one of three causes: undissolved PVA film (cycle ran too cold or too short), hard water minerals (looks similar but is calcium and magnesium), or detergent residue (the tab didn't dissolve at the right moment). Run a hot rinse cycle to clear residue, top up the rinse-aid reservoir, and switch to a hotter wash cycle going forward. If your dishwasher has a salt reservoir, refill with dishwasher salt for hard water areas.

✓ Quick fixes

Run a hot rinse cycle (no detergent) to clear residue from dishes and the dishwasher interior. Top up the rinse-aid reservoir, it helps water sheet off cleanly. Switch to a hotter wash cycle going forward. If your dishwasher has a salt reservoir, refill with dishwasher salt for hard-water areas. If film keeps coming back, hard water is usually the cause.
