TL;DR: Sensitive Hand Wash and Sensitive Body Wash both come as a 1.5L bag-in-box. Fill the 350ml pump bottle straight from the tap, top it up whenever it runs low, and keep the same bottle. When the box is empty, the cardboard goes in your kerbside recycling and the inner bag goes to soft plastics.
How does the Koh Body Care refill system work?
The pump bottle lives on your bench or in your shower. The box lives in a cupboard. Fill from the box, repeat until it's empty.
Fill the 350ml pump bottle from the bag-in-box tap. One 1.5L box fills the bottle about four times.
Store the box somewhere dry and handy: a bathroom cabinet, under the sink, or on a shelf. It doesn't need to sit in the shower or at the sink, and cardboard doesn't like damp.
Top the bottle up whenever it runs low. Each pump dispenses 2ml, so a full 350ml bottle gives you around 175 pumps.
When the box is empty, flatten the cardboard for kerbside recycling, take the bag out for soft plastics, grab a new box, and keep the same pump bottle.
Why bag-in-box
A bag-in-box uses 80 to 90 per cent less plastic than a rigid container holding the same volume. The pump bottle is 350ml, made with 50 per cent recycled plastic and the Reloop additive, and it's rated for around 3,000 pumps, so it's built to be kept rather than replaced.
What do I do with the packaging when it's empty?
Cardboard box
Pull the bag out, flatten the box, and put it in your kerbside recycling bin.
Inner bag
A soft plastic, so keep it out of the kerbside bin. Cut it, rinse it, then send it to soft plastics. Steps below.
The black tap
Twist the tap off before you prep the bag. Taps are not recyclable yet, so that part goes in general waste on its own.
Pump bottle
Keep it. It's built to be refilled from box after box, not thrown out.
Got wash left in the bag? Dilute it with running water or use it up gradually rather than tipping a large amount away at once.
How to prep the bag for soft plastics recycling
Twist the black tap off the bag and put it in your general waste bin.
Make about four cuts along each side of the bag so water can flow right through it.
Rinse it well. To save water, pop the cut bag inside a laundry bag and run it through your next cool wash.
Drop it off at a participating Woolworths, or book a pickup with Resmart. Their site, resmart.co, shows what runs in your area. Kerbside and soft plastics rules vary between councils, so check yours if you're unsure.
