Can I use Sensitive Laundry Sheets on wool?Updated 6 hours ago
TL;DR: Our Sensitive Laundry Sheets are excellent for everyday fabrics, but not recommended for wool and other protein fibres like cashmere or silk. The formula includes enzymes such as protease which can weaken wool over time. Use a wool-safe, enzyme-free detergent instead.
Why wool is different
Wool and similar fabrics are protein fibres made of keratin. Enzymes that lift protein stains can also act on the fibre itself with repeated use.
What in the sheets causes the clash?
- Protease (enzyme): targets protein stains like blood or sweat and can weaken wool fibres over time.
- The rest of the everyday-cleaning ingredients are fine for most fabrics, but the enzyme blend makes the product unsuitable for wool.
What to use instead
- Choose a wool-safe, enzyme-free detergent.
- Wash cold or cool on a gentle cycle or handwash.
- Use a mesh laundry bag, select low spin, and dry flat away from heat.
If you used a sheet by mistake
- Rinse the garment well in cool water.
- Rewash with a wool-safe detergent on a gentle cycle.
- Avoid heat until the fabric looks and feels normal.
Other fibres to treat like wool
Avoid Sensitive Laundry Sheets on cashmere, alpaca, silk and other protein fibres. For everything else, do a quick spot test if you are unsure.
