How to clean TV, monitor & laptop screenUpdated 6 hours ago
TL;DR: Don’t use Universal Cleaner on any TV, monitor or laptop screen. For the display, use a dry Glass Cloth (microfiber) only. You can clean the bezel/stand with Universal Cleaner, spray onto the cloth, not the device, and avoid ports.
Why not Universal Cleaner on screens?
Modern displays have delicate anti-glare and oleophobic coatings. Universal Cleaner is an alkaline detergent designed for hard, non-coated household surfaces, great there, but might be too strong for screen coatings.
Safe, simple routine
- Dry wipe first. Use a clean, dry Glass Cloth in straight lines (top-to-bottom). This lifts dust without scratching.
- For smudges (if your manufacturer allows): Lightly mist distilled water onto the cloth (never directly on the screen). Wipe gently, then immediately buff dry with a second dry cloth.
Cleaning the bezel, stand & case
- These parts are usually safe to clean with Universal Cleaner, but still spot test.
- Spray the cloth, not the device. Wring to damp, then wipe. Keep moisture away from seams, vents and ports.
- Finish with a dry cloth.
