Can I use Sensitive Laundry Sheets on wool or silk?Updated 11 days ago
TL;DR: No. Sensitive Laundry Sheets aren't suitable for wool, silk, or cashmere. The formula contains enzymes that can weaken delicate fibres like these over time. The same applies to alpaca, mohair, rayon, viscose, and linen. For these fabrics, use a wool-safe, enzyme-free detergent instead.
Why wool and silk need different care
⚠ Not recommended for delicate fibres
Wool, silk, and cashmere are delicate fibres that can break down with enzymatic detergents. Sensitive Laundry Sheets contain enzymes designed to target everyday stains in cotton and synthetic loads. With repeated use, the same enzymes can act on the fibres themselves in delicate fabrics, causing gradual weakening, thinning, or pilling.
✓ What to use instead
For wool, silk, and similar delicate fibres, use a wool-safe, enzyme-free detergent. Wash cold or cool on a gentle cycle, or handwash. A mesh laundry bag protects shape, low spin reduces fibre stress, and drying flat away from heat helps the garment hold its form.
⚠ Other fibres to treat the same way
The same warning applies to cashmere, alpaca, and mohair, which behave like wool.
Silk and silk blends are also delicate enough to skip.
Rayon, viscose, and linen can also weaken or pill with enzymatic detergents over time.
For anything unfamiliar, spot-test on an inside seam before washing.
What if I used a sheet by mistake?
⚠ What to do
Rinse the garment well in cool water.
Rewash with a wool-safe, enzyme-free detergent on a gentle cycle.
Avoid heat and tumble drying until the fabric looks and feels normal.
A single wash by mistake usually won't ruin the garment. Repeated use is the issue, so switch detergents from here on.
