Can I use Stain Remover on carpets, rugs, or lounges?Updated 13 days ago
TL;DR: Stain Remover is for laundry use only. It needs a full wash rinse, so it's not suitable for direct use on carpets, rugs, or lounges. For spot cleaning soft furnishings, use Sensitive Laundry Liquid in a spot cleaner or wet vac. For heavier stains, pre-treat with Stain Remover before running the machine.
Why not Stain Remover on its own?
⚠ Needs a full wash rinse
Stain Remover is formulated to be rinsed away in a full machine wash cycle. Soft furnishings don't get the same deep rinse, so product residue can remain in the fibres and padding. Over time that residue can attract new dirt, cause faint odours, or mark darker patches as the fabric dries.
What should I use instead?
✓ Spot cleaner or wet vac method
Add 1 pump (4 mL) of Sensitive Laundry Liquid per 1L of warm water in the machine tank.
Run the spot cleaner over the stained area as the manufacturer recommends.
Allow the area to dry fully before walking or sitting on it.
✓ For heavier stains: pre-treat first
Pre-spray Stain Remover directly onto the fabric and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes before running the spot cleaner. The spot cleaner's rinse step handles what a full wash cycle would normally provide for laundry.
⚠ Fabric check
Avoid Stain Remover on wool, silk, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, rayon, viscose, and linen carpets, rugs, and upholstery. The enzymes can act on these fibres over repeated use. See the fabric compatibility article for the full list and what to use instead.
For non-fabric upholstery materials like leather and suede, and for any unfamiliar fabric, spot-test on a hidden edge or inside seam first. Colourfastness varies by dye and material.
