Can I use Stain Remover on carpets, rugs, or lounges?Updated 7 days ago
TL;DR: Stain Remover needs a full machine rinse to clear the fabric, so it is made for laundry rather than direct use on soft furnishings. For carpets, rugs and lounges, dose Sensitive Laundry Liquid into a spot cleaner or wet vac. For heavier marks, pre-spray Stain Remover first, then run the machine.
Can I use it directly on soft furnishings?
✓ Laundry, with one exception
Stain Remover is made to be rinsed away in a full machine wash. Carpets, rugs and lounges do not get that rinse on their own, so use Sensitive Laundry Liquid in a spot cleaner or wet vac for those.
There is one exception, and it is in the method below: on a heavier mark, pre-spray Stain Remover and then run the spot cleaner, because the machine's rinse step does the job a wash cycle would.
What should I use instead?
✓ Spot cleaner or wet vac method
Add 1 pump, which is 4 mL, of Sensitive Laundry Liquid per litre of warm water in the machine tank.
Run the spot cleaner over the marked area as the manufacturer recommends.
Let the area dry fully before you walk or sit on it.
✓ For heavier marks, pre-treat first
Pre-spray Stain Remover straight onto the fabric and leave it 5 to 10 minutes before you run the spot cleaner. The machine's rinse step does the job a full wash cycle would.
⚠ Fabric check
Avoid Stain Remover on wool carpets, rugs and upholstery, and on other protein fibres such as silk, where the enzymes can act on the fibres themselves over repeated use. See the fabric compatibility article for what to use instead.
On non-fabric upholstery such as leather and suede, and on any unfamiliar material, spot-test on a hidden edge or inside seam first. Colourfastness varies by dye and by material.
