What is in Universal Cleaner?

Koh Universal Cleaner has only two ingredients: potassium hydroxide and laboratory grade purified water. Potassium hydroxide is an alkali degreaser that saponifies fats and oils, lifting grease and baked-on grime off the surface. Laboratory grade purified water is the solvent that carries it, and it is what gives the streak-free finish on glass and polished surfaces. There is no added fragrance, no dyes, no preservatives, no phosphates, no chlorine and no palm derivatives. It also sets the limits, because soft metals, raw aluminium, aftermarket window tints and coated glass react to alkaline cleaners generally. Shelf life is 18 months from the date of manufacture, sealed and stored properly. Store it cool, sealed and shaded, out of direct sunlight. Do not freeze it and keep it away from extreme heat. A box covers about 3 months of cleaning in an average home, and the larger box about 6 months.

The alkaline formulation is what cuts through cooking grease and organic matter, making it easier to clean.
