Can you use Universal Cleaner on tile and grout floors?Updated 5 days ago
TL;DR: Tile is one of the best floors for Universal Cleaner. It is ideal on glazed ceramic and porcelain, and fine on matte, textured, unglazed and lappato finishes too. Spray lightly just ahead of the pad and mop it straight up, and pair it with the Grout Brush to lift grime from grout lines.
Can you use Universal Cleaner on tile and grout floors?
✓ Glazed ceramic and porcelain
The ideal pairing. The glaze gives the pad a smooth run, so a light spray and a quick mop leaves the floor clean and dry in seconds.
✓ Matte, textured, unglazed and lappato
All fine with Universal Cleaner. Textured finishes add friction under the pad, so expect a little more resistance and see the glide tips below.
✓ Every other floor type

How do you clean grout lines?
✓ Three steps to clean grout
Grout is porous, so it holds grime the tile face sheds. The Grout Brush has precision bristles shaped to fit the grout joint.
1 Spray along the line. A light run of Universal Cleaner straight down the grout joint.
2 Scrub with the Grout Brush. Work along the joint so the bristles sit in the line rather than across it.
3 Mop it straight up. Run the Spray Mop or a cloth over the area so the loosened grime does not dry back in.
How do you stop the mop dragging on textured tile?
✓ If the mop will not glide
Dragging or sticking is usually an anti slip coating on the tile adding friction, rather than anything going wrong with the mop. Switch to the Everyday Mop Pads, or add a touch more solution so the pad has something to run on.
What should you never use on tile floors?
⚠ Never use the Diamond Sponge on tile floors
The Diamond Sponge is made for hard, non porous, glossy surfaces. On grout, matte tile, textured tile or unglazed porcelain it will scratch the surface, and that damage cannot be undone. Use the Grout Brush on grout lines instead.
What if your flooring warranty asks for a pH neutral cleaner?
✓ Run the mop on water only
Fill the Spray Mop with plain water instead. Same mop, same pads, just a different fill. It is a fully supported way to use the mop, and plenty of customers clean this way by choice.
⚠ Universal Cleaner is not pH neutral
It is an alkaline formulation, which is part of how it lifts grease and grime without scrubbing. Sealed grout is the part of a tile floor most often covered by a pH neutral condition, so check the warranty before you clean, not after.
